Reviewing your health and safety standards is just as important as reviewing any
other part of your business. It should be a regular process that is a routine part
of your business operation. Health and safety reviews help to ensure ensure your
business is complying with the law, and go a long way towards reducing the risk of
accidents and work-related ill health.
Health and Safety Audits Safety auditing is a valuable management technique that is highly recommended by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE). HSE guidance document HSG65 “Successful Health and Safety Management” recommends that audits are undertaken annually to assist organisations to focus their resources in areas of most need. Our auditing systems can be measured against HSG65 as well as measuring your status against legal compliance and your own internal standards. Our auditor will examine your own management policies and procedures for securing health, safety and welfare. This is supported by a safety inspection which will help identify areas where new policies are needed, and where existing procedures are not working effectively in practice.
We will prepare and submit a user-friendly written report that identifies where attention is needed to meet legislation or a recognised standard. It will also explain why such attention is needed. Each subject heading will have an action plan on which you can record your own targets and time-frames for addressing, and the people who are allocated with responsibility for the task.
Health and Safety Inspections
A safety inspection, sometimes referred to as a ‘check-up’ or ‘health check’ is an effective way of quickly establishing how well your health and safety responsibilities are being managed and what, if anything, could be improved. Hobday Safety Consultants can arrange to visit your premises and carry out a visual inspection of your workplace. We would review your procedures and practices to determine if there are any areas for improvement. Advice and guidance would be given verbally at the time of the visit. If required, we would also produce a written report and action list, outlining the recommended areas of improvement to comply with current legislation.
