The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 requires businesses to ensure that all persons within a workplace are able to reach a place of safety in the event of fire. This includes any people with disabilities or other mobility impairments. This requirement to make plans for evacuating people with mobility impairments is reinforced by the Disability Discrimination Act. In premises where people need to use staircases to evacuate, an evacuation chair (Evac Chair) may be required to assist those with disabilities. For example, it can be used to easily evacuate a wheelchair user down stairs. If you provide Evac Chairs in your workplace, you should also train staff how to use them and encourage regular practice. Hobday Safety Consultants provide Evac Chair training in Bristol and across the UK to businesses, shops, hotels and other premises with evacuation chairs in place. Our evacuation chair training courses cover the key aspects of using an Evac Chair, including: • the legal framework • personal emergency evacuation plans • fire evacuation procedures • the use of Evac Chairs (theory and practical). All staff will receive a certificate of attendance on completion of the course. To find out more and to book Evac Chair training for your staff, contact us now.
