What is a Risk Assessment?

Most people have heard of the term ‘risk assessment’, but what does it really mean?

The Health & Safety Executive (HSE) define it as “simply a careful examination of what, in your work, could cause harm to people, so that you can weigh up whether you have taken enough precautions or should do more to prevent harm”.

The law requires risk assessments to be carried out for all work activities.

What is a DSE Assessment?

DSE stands for ‘Display Screen Equipment’ and refers to desktop computers, laptops, VDUs, and other such equipment with a screen that displays information.  DSE is widely used in many workplaces and indeed in many homes too.  Someone who uses DSE for a significant part of their normal work is considered to be a ‘DSE user’.

The law requires DSE Assessments to be carried out for every single workstation and reviewed on a regular basis.
